TrueNAS vs OpenMediaVault

  • According to this, I’d have chosen TrueNAS Core over Scale because that’s simpler. Plus, I don’t need any Docker/Kubernetes support because I’d rather do run those on Proxmox.
  • However, I think OMV is better suited for me because:
    • It has better support for mergerfs. And I prefer mergerfs over ZFS because it allows me to add arbitrary number, type and sizes of hard drives. ZFS, on the other hand, is more constrained.
    • TrueNAS wants minimum 8 GB RAM whereas I run OMV on just 6 GB.
