If yes and if you love watching movies as much as I do, I will make two recommendations to you- two movies which you may not have heard about but will like enormously. But first I’ll tell you a few things about The good, the bad and the ugly.
The good, the bad and the ugly was directed by an Italian director (and one of the greatest too) called Sergio Leone. The music was given by Ennio Morricone, a legendary composer (and a classmate of Sergio Leone, something I found just now while writing this post). And of course, the movie was based on cowboys with Clint Eastwood in the lead.
The good, the bad and the ugly came out in 1966. And it was in 1964 and 1965 that the same combination (director/composer/lead actor in a cowboy role) appeared in A fistful of dollars and For a few dollars more respectively. Watch these two films and you’ll find all the elements, which made the ’66 flick a classic, right in front of you once again. The two movies are not prequel to The good, the bad and the ugly and have different stories all together. But they have the same charisma of Eastwood playing a cowboy, the slow paced scenes directed by Sergio and the beautiful background scores by Morricone.
Apart from these three pictures, the other Sergio-Morricone movies that I have watched include Once upon a time in America starring Robert De Niro (in spite of its length of 3h 50m, the film is one of the best gangster movies I have watched till now and the background music- you will have to hear it once to appreciate how good it actually is) and Once upon a time in the West. Sergio and Morricone was a great combination and today, the only one that comes closest to it is probably that of Christopher Nolan and Hans Zimmer.
