TLS vs STARTTLS

At least for SMTP:

• TLS:
  • Forced TLS connection from the start.
  • Port: 465.
• STARTTLS:
  • Starts off with an unencrypted connection and upgrades to TLS right after.
  • Port: 587.
  • Usually preferred to TLS.
